Springtime at “Over The Rainbow”

All our Toddler and Pre-school groups have enjoyed their outings to the “Ark Open Farm”at Newtownards. They were able to feed the lambs and young goats bottles of milk and even hold a week old chick in their hands.  Many of the children were so brave they fed carrots to the donkeys and threw grain to the hens and chickens.

Red Nose Day at “Over The Rainbow”

Fundraising for Comic Relief was a great event at  “Over The Rainbow”.  All the children and staff were involved in someway.  Babies had Pyjama Parties, Tiny-Tots were dressed as the Gruffalo, Toddlers went for a walk in fancy dress. The  Pre-school children at a Trike-A-Thon and even the After-school children joined in after their hard day at school by having a Rock themed disco.

Children inspecting the ongoing work

Brand new improved facilities underway at our Deramore site.  New Kitchen and Dining room improvements with a larger Messy Play Area being designed.

The children have loved watching the diggers and larger transport vehicles going to and fro from the Nursery and seeing ‘real buiders’ at work !

We once again apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and look  forward to sharing our improved facilities with you and your children.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

November 2010 107

We are delighted to announce our latest quality recognition in achieving The Investors in People Award. As this involved a lot of extra work behind the scenes we are very proud and grateful to our staff team for all their dedication and support during the process of attaining this well recognised benchmark of excellence.

The  Social Services Report from their inspection in July states that they had received very positive feedback from parents and we thank you for taking the time to inform Social services of your satisfaction.  Other comments from the report which we’d like to share:- ( Over The Rainbow)  “maintains very high standards of care for their children.”, “On inspection all of the staff were presented as genuinely warm, caring and attentive to the needs of the children”, “staff and management appear to be committed to further developing and improving the quality of service provided” and “ The nursery is well resourced and the children are offered a wide range of play opportunities, outings etc.”

“Over The Rainbow” – Pyjama Party

Over The Rainbow” raised over £785.00 for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Children from the nursery came dressed in their pyjamas to raise money for UCF’s Family Support Service.  This vital service offers specialist emotional support to the entire family when a close family member has been diagnosed with cancer.

During a fun-filled afternoon UCF’s  Genevieve the Goat read from ‘Genevieve and the Farmyard Olympics’ a book aimed at children aged 3-4 years old.

The book highlights the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle which ‘Over The Rainbow’ are proud to support.  Thank you again to all over Parents who helped support this worthy cause.

Babies & Tiny- Tots Toddle Waddle Pirate Adventure!

During the month of August all our Babies and Tiny-Tots took part in a sponsered ‘Toddle Waddle’ in aid of Barnardos.  Each child went for a lovely walk then returned to nursery for a Pirate themed picnic.  They all dressed up as pirates with home made hats for our treasure hunt.

Exploris Aquarium Visit

We had a fabulous visit from the people at Exploris last month.  The children

were told about the Seal Hospital at the Aquarium and how they fed the sick

seals with “Fish Smoothies”.  The Leaders showed the children some Starfish,

Rayfish, Squid and dried shark skin which is used to make handbags, as well

as being used to clean the decks of ships!

The children had the chance to see and hold the different sea creatures in

the Aquarium tank ie. Sea Urchins and Devil Crabs.  The Scallops were the

things that the children enjoyed the most as they would squirt water at

them everytime they lifted them from the tank!
